note: I'm writing here about the film not the novel upon which its based. as such I take the film for what it is and will not compare it to its literary source material. 

Though the scenario presented in the film seems largely allegorical its also frighteningly realistic. This is due in large part to the films singular pace that allows for the plot to naturally build to its horrific conclusion. Though its not only the pace that feels natural. Nearly every aspect of the film permeates an organic feel. From the photography to the  performances. The child actors come off not as actors but as little boys stranded on a Island...as they should. At no point do you feel they are  reciting words given to them. This would be a great complement to any actor of any age. Because of their age though it seems all the more miraculous.
